As Laurence said, we don’t have job titles at the Winking Prawn, so like him I am a partner along with my family, mum and Mark. My main duties are booking the bands for Island Street Bar & Grill, generally organising the different venues and the staff, and I take pride in being chief floor mopper and Hoovering trainer. I’m very hands on with the marketing of the venues, and you can usually find me at Island Street in Salcombe or the Cracking Crab in Polzeath.
There’s no such thing as an average day, I can be doing anything from driving to The Cracking Crab and helping the chefs to finding bands to perform in Salcombe. At the weekend you can usually find me ending the day shaking cocktails at Island Street – it’s tough but someone’s got to do it.
Working with my mum?!... It’s pretty great being able to go out wakeboarding when the weather’s good too.
At The Cracking Crab it’s the fruits de mer, at Sailor V it’s the King Prawn Salad with guacamole and lime dressing – well tasty! At Island Street Bar & Grill it’s the rack of spare ribs, at the Winking Prawn it’s the summer barbeque which we are getting ready to start, and all of them washed down with a Prawn Juice (our new bespoke beer – in case you haven’t seen it yet!).
The summer atmosphere at all of our venues in the summer, and the general Salcombe party mood.
When it’s not summer in Devon and Cornwall I find it particularly helpful to travel around the world to places like Ibiza and Brazil doing ‘research’ for the restaurants and snowboarding in the winter.
